With apologies to Alvin Lee and Ten Years After, this is one of my favorite songs from my rock-and-roll youth. I remember desperately trying to play it in cramped basements, on a Teisco del Rey guitar. I decided that the chorus offered an opportunity to offer a get-out-the-vote message. When people vote, democracy wins. In the original Verse 1 and chorus, the line "but I don't know what to do" suggests helplessness in a troubled world. As a patriot, I believe in the power of the ballot box; and if there was ever a time to use it, it's now. Unlike those who came before us, all that we are asked to do is vote. It's easier than ever. You don't even have to stand in line - you can mail it in.
This is Version 7, and has these issues:
Rewritten verses: I wanted the lyrics to have relevance to current events, and some of the original lyrics I genuinely disliked. The original version is great and I encourage everyone to listen to it, and of course, Alvin Lee's amazing guitar work. I saw this as an opportunity to jettison a few lines, but otherwise I stuck to the originals, some of which are just somewhat related words.
Missing Line: Verse - "Life is funny, skies are sunny, bees make honey Missing: Who needs money? Oh, no, not poor me
Accents: The 2nd accent in the progression ( Em-G . . A C B7) in this version is incorrect. I'll fix it in the next version.
